The UK Pavilion by Wolfgang Buttress

We really loved our visit to the UK Pavilion at the Universal Expo of Milan.

Wolfgang Buttress is an award winning artist working with public and private space. He creates simple, elegant and contextual artworks which seek to define and celebrate a sense of place and the sublime. His work alludes to histories, traces and memories that are both personal and contextual. He was born in 1965 and studied BA (Hons) Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University in 1987.

It was a very unique experience to visit this paviljon. A great experience we will never forget.

Visitors take part in an immersive experience through a British orchard and wildflower meadow with typical native plant species, moving onto a 17 meter-high stylised bee hive in the form of an aluminium sphere. The hive is made up of over 180,000 components and weighs 30 tonnes. Visitors are surrounded by sounds and lights flickering in response to movements within a real bee hive based in the UK. This ground-breaking technology monitors the health of bee hives and helps to solve the challenge of sustaining bee populations – vital to pollination and feeding the planet.
