NEW BELGICA, Concept for Exhibition on shipyard

 Expo Design

“A historic ship”

In Boom, near Antwerp, a replica of the historic ship “Belgica” is currently still under construction. This site as well as an exhibition are accessible to the public in order to better understand Adrien de Gerlache's expedition on his emblematic ship. In 1897, this Belgian explorer undertook a scientific and highly adventurous expedition to Antarctica. We had the honor of creating the concept for the exhibition inside the shipyard where the organization De Steenschuit is working on a replica of this historic three-masted ship by Adrien de Gerlache. Besides the challenge of this reconstruction, ‘De Steenschuit’ also adopts a social concept. They reintegrate people into their workshops who have been unemployed for a very long time. When the 'New Belgica' is completed, it will find its new home port next to the MAS museum in Antwerp.
